So…. I have to tell you that athletics has never been my strong suit. I like to think of myself as more the “creative” type… aka I am so uncoordinated it isn’t even funny! I have been to my fair share of sporting events, but my favorite part is usually the tailgating and socializing!   

  All that being said, I do LOVE the Olympic Summer Games, though!  I grew up watching Mary Lou Retton (yes… I’m old) and so many others that I just admired so much for all of their hard work.  I can’t imagine what it must feel like getting a gold medal, but each time I feel so proud for them I am almost in tears!  OK… I sob like a baby!

To get my girls excited about the upcoming Olympics, we decided to throw an Olympics-themed pool party next weekend.  I just couldn’t wait so show you the noodle ring decor that we made today with some of our friends. I am planning on hanging it on our gazebo as the main backdrop for the party.   I was completely inspired by the from and really wanted to make a huge colorful display of rings!

5 pool noodles

Duck Tape

5 6″ pieces of pvc pipe

fishing line

hot glue gun

1/4 yards of knit in each of the Olympic ring colors

Step One. Insert your pvc into the end of the noodle.  You want to go about half way down the pvc pipe.

Step Two. Insert the other end of the pvc piping into the other end of the pool noodle.

Step Three. This is what the pool noodle will look like at this point.  No worries about it looking uneven!  Just leave about an inch of the pvc pipe showing.

Step Four.  Now you will wrap duck tape around the opening of the circle where it is uneven.  Sorry about the color change of the noodle here, I kept losing my help!

Step Five.  Time for some color!  I cut my 1/4 yard of knit into three equal strips.  I began gluing it on and then wrapped it as far as it would go and then glue down that end and begin again with the two remaining sections of fabric.

Step Six.  You this will give you an idea of how to wrap it.  When you finish, your noodle should be completely covered! Repeat with the other four colors!

Step Seven.  Now you will lay all of the rings down and tie them together with fishing line where they meet.  All done!
