Plan on walking, a lot

Nice enough place with a few major faults. Plenty of pools and water with non-porous decorated dining rooms 2018 tile everywhere is a recipe for disaster. Many guests complaining and some falling and getting injured. Also, it’s a large resort and the shuttle service sucks. The shuttle is supposed to run every fifteen minutes but plan on waiting up to 45. Not a huge deal to walk unless you’ve injured yourself slipping on wet tile. Seriously, if a resort in the US had floors like this place the lawsuits would put them out of business. Other than those two issues it’s nice enough. We won’t be back though.

Check-in nightmare and deceiving excursion

We arrived at the resort early and could not check in until 3, which is understandable. At 3 we got in line (mind you we booked about a year in advance for 2 side-by-side swim up rooms) and I believe we got to the assigned room at 4:20 thankfully lugging our own luggage with us. The room was already booked! We walked in on a very nice young couple and were 4 doors down from our friends. After another trip to the front desk, we got a temporary room and then had to move the next night to a room with only 1 room between us and our friends. After that all was fine and we did get a spa gift certificate. The food was good, the staff at the bars were excellent, and Apple Vacations travel arrangements were good as well (after realizing at the airport that we can get on the van - they put the fear of god in you to not go without the flowered shirts). We did the Isla Mejeures cattamoran...Do Not Bother. It is a tourist trap, the Isle was crowded, beaches are not private, snorkeling was in water that was WAY TOO ROUGH, the boat was crowded and NO you cannot interact with others. It is NOT a party cruise either, so chose wisely.

Travelled July 2018 with friends. Two families including a combination of our 7 kids who are young adults aged 15-25. We all were able to enjoy different aspects of the resort. All the staff were very respectful to us. The staff at the Chill Out bar and attached beach beds were amazing. They always remembered our many 'array' of drink orders and delivered them within minutes. The grounds are so well manicured and clean. The rooms are very clean too. We tried almost all of the restaurants and the food was great, including the pirate restaurant and the ice cream shop. We were especially blessed to witness a nest of about 150 loggerhead turtles hatch from right in front of the resort. Unfortunately we arrived the same day as the sargassum seaweed did, therefore the beach was not always clear to swim in. But there were a few days that it was not there and the beach was amazing on those days. We also took the ferry to Cozumel for the day and at that beach we were able to snorkel. We found a starfish, sand dollars and lobsters. Another day we enjoyed at Xelha adventure park which we booked online from home. Our friends did this and I believe they used their Groupon. We would definitely return to Grand Sunset Princess.

BEST place for solo vacation!

Stayed at GSP for the second time in June, this time solo. Buffet food is meh, but everything else about the resort is incredible! Stayed at Grand Palladium Kantenah last week, and missed GSP dearly. Swim-out rooms at GSP are truly the best, do yourself a favour and spend the extra cash - SO worth it!

Absolutely perfect!

My boyfriend and I stayed in this resort for 9 nights, in the Villa Laguna accommodation. It was honestly one of the most delightful trips I have ever been on, we couldn’t fault it! It felt like paradise from the moment we arrived. The hotel had pre booked two restaurants for us which we thought was a lovely touch. The room was perfect, it had a large bath and an outdoor shower. I was able to watch the sunrise from the balcony in the morning which helped get me through my jet lag. As we stayed in the Villa Laguna accommodation we could choose to eat in any of the many restaurants or the buffets, on the Thursday we had a special gala dinner & we got access to the Villa Laguna private pool & bar. Our favourite restaurant was the teppanyaki, it was delicious! The gala dinner was great with live music & our sever Ricardo was wonderful, he was so friendly & polite. That being said, all the staff at the resort as a whole were unbelievably nice and helpful. But Pedro & Margarita are two more staff members that deserve a special mention, they’re stationed at the villa Laguna private area & they made our trip extra special. They were honestly fantastic, so accommodating & we really enjoyed chatting to them each day & not to mention Pedro’s amazing cocktails! At the villa laguna area you could book huts the night before so that you could stay in the shade if you didn’t want to lie in the sun, they were very cute. Each night there was different entertainment in the resort, it was lovely to have so much going on to choose from. The Mexican market was brilliant as we both picked up some souvenirs to bring home. The foam party on the beach was very good fun, I would definitely recommend checking it out. The seaweed situation on the beach was pretty bad but the staff did their best to keep clearing it, it didn’t bother me as I prefer the pool to the sea anyway. The gym & spa facilities were great. We went to the gym most mornings and were very thankful for the AC. We got massages in the spa, it was very relaxing. We played a couple of games of tennis there too. We only left the resort a couple of times for tours that we booked, other than that we were more than happy to spend the rest of our time there in the resort. It was a magnificent holiday & we would definitely return!
