Colonel Charlie Beckwith Founder and First Commanding Officer of 1st SFOD-Delta Delta Force...His British Camouflage Uniform Smock I obtained recently from another Forum member...I will post more of this uniform and field gear grouping from Operation Eagle Claw soon...This grouping is historically significant in several ways and I am pleased to have the opportunity to add the grouping to my collection of Col. Beckwith's guns and Delta Force related firearms.

As a vocal proponent of British SAS tactics and organization, Col. Beckwith utilized much of SAS doctrine during his planning and subsequent organization of what would become Delta Force in the late 1970s. His dedication to forming a premier elite unit within the US Army was nothing short of remarkable for its audacity and eventual establishment overcoming incredible obstacles for the many years he worked to form the unit.

He is well known in Special Operations, of course, but the link below gives a brief biography of his life and service history.

Wow! Ed, this would be from when Delta trained with the British SAS, yes?

Wow!

Well known in Special Operations is an understatement.

I am guessing he wore that when all the US Army had was OG-107 pickle suits.

You never fail to amaze, Ed.

Col. Beckwith wore this jacket in 1980 during training for the Iran Hostage Rescue Mission, Operation Eagle Claw. The black and white photo of him wearing this camo jacket is a scan from his book Delta Force: A Memoir by the Founder of the U.S. Military's Most Secretive Special-Operations Unit

Dennison Smocks are great at the best of times. But this may almost trump the best ones out there.

I like that the pictures shows him wearing it. Can not wait to see the rest of the grouping.

that is really cool, great piece

I've known a 22 SAS veteran who was in in the '70s to the late '80s for a few years. He has mentioned a couple of times about training with Dick Meadows as Dick went over to SAS.

He would also go over on exchange to the U.S. in the '80s to train with Delta as he knew Charlie Beckwith as well.
